Guntur is a coastal district of Andhra Pradesh, where the seeds of residential education was first sown in private sector in the 1970’s and 80’s as students from all parts of the state flooded the town,  and residential schools and colleges were set up by private agencies and trusts. The city saw a boom of such institutions while there was little happening in the education in rural areas. Under these cicumstances, the establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Maddirala in 1987  with the objective to provide good quality modern education to gifted rural students and to keep them abreast with the latest trends in education proved a turning point for education in the rural sector. This stupendous task was carried out remarkably well by successive Principals and Staff of the Vidyalaya placing it among the best educational institutions of the district. Ever since its inception, the Vidyalaya has been making relentless efforts to uplift the Vidyalaya to the level of the best schools of the region.
